YIN YOGA
What is Yin Yoga?
Yin Yoga is a very slow and still form of yoga that combines passive postures and meditative introspection. Where more active yoga styles are considered ‘Yang,’ focusing on developing strength, flexibility, and mental focus through heat inducing, sun energy movement, ‘Yin’ focuses on stillness, coolness, getting into the darkness within, and enjoying the internal moon medicine style experience.
These are two sides of the same proverbial coin, so in order to maintain balance and health in life, harnessing both the active and passive sides of our being creates a well rounded yoga practice.
Why do Yin Yoga?
The aim of this practice is to allow you to feel the structure of the bones and connective tissues in each passive pose, and allow gravity to do the work. As you hold each pose for 3-5+ minutes, the body begins to soften around the ‘edges’ and you are able to release more deeply into the pose - really helping you to find your full range of movement in a relaxed manner.
The vibe of these sessions is deeply relaxing, often silent, or with gentle meditative music in the background. The teacher will guide you through the postures, giving options to use blocks for support, and will leave space for you to explore your own inner experience.
What to bring?
Unlinke other forms of yoga, you will not be moving too much in these classes. Please wear something that is comfortable and allows a bit of stretch. You may also want to bring a blanket and cushion for savasana.
